Sport is vital to the development of young people. It helps them to build their physical and emotional health, and to find a place in their community. When communities are affected by poverty, exclusion or social instability, it can be difficult to begin sport projects. With support, they are more able to do so, and usually find that the benefits reach beyond physical fitness and general well-being. Sport is a powerful tool for development, for social change and for peace. Savate Bien is a global project set up by the International Savate Federation, using our sport to promote health, education and social integration. Savate Bien has four main strands:
Sharing our Sport – Ambassador programme
Sharing our Values
Sharing Savate Resources
Supporting others
Many young people love to travel and experience new ways of life. Savate Bien combines the desire of athletes and coaches to visit new places, with a way to share our sport and our values. Competition is important for Savate athletes, but Savate is much more than just competition. It is a way of improving our lives, our health and our prospects.
The Savate Bien project grew from a discussion at the 2016 Pan-American Savate General Assembly. At the time, many South American countries were experiencing financial difficulties. As a result, athletes from these countries found it difficult to take part in international seminars and competitions. The costs of travel and accommodation is often too high. The project has grown quickly, and now includes countries in Africa and Asia.
